Visibility Strategy Framework: Streamline Your Marketing Efforts

Image of a keyboard, pink binder clip, and notepad on a yellow background with a text overlay reading 'Build Your Strategic Visibility Plan (Without the Overwhelm)' for a blog post about visibility strategy

Standing at your desk, staring at an overwhelming list of marketing tasks, and you keep thinking, “there’s got to be a better way!” You’re supposed to be marketing on social media. You’re supposed to email at least once a week. Are you blogging, by the way? You’ve gotta be doing that too. Oh, and if you can throw in hosting a podcast and/or YouTube channel, all the better! 🫠

With all the things we’re “supposed” to do as online business owners, it feels impossible to be everywhere at once. You do

A sustainable visibility strategy is about doing less, but doing it better by aligning where and how you show up with your strengths and business goals. Set specific, measurable objectives, choose one primary platform plus a complementary one, and create value-driven content that addresses real pain points and demonstrates your expertise. Track both quantitative and qualitative metrics, review them monthly, and refine your approach by doubling down on what works to build a resilient Visibility Ecosystem™

The Foundation of Strategic Visibility

Random acts of visibility rarely lead to sustainable growth. If you really want to grow your business through visibility, you need to make intentional choices about where and how you show up. Those choices need to align with your overall business goals if they’re going to be effective, too. When you keep your visibility marketing strategy aligned with your business goals, you’ll not only save time and energy, but you’ll also get better results and more ROI because you’re consistently planting seeds. Those seeds will grow, get harvested, and create even more seeds—which creates a sustainable Visibility Ecosystem!

Your visibility marketing strategy becomes your roadmap. It’s easier to make decisions about which visibility opportunities say Heck Yes to and which to politely decline. Your visibility strategy means you’re not just reacting to new platforms and trends anymore, but you’re being proactive with speaking and collaboration opportunities that actually build into your bigger business goals.

Setting Strategic Visibility Goals

Before we get into the nitty-gritty tactics, you need clarity on what you’re trying to achieve through visibility marketing. Your visibility goals should directly support your business objectives. Having specific, measurable goals is key to success. Ask yourself questions like:

  • What circles do I want to be known as a thought leader in?
  • What makes for a qualified lead for my signature offer?
  • Who do I want to build strategic partnerships and collaborations with?
  • Why do I want to grow my email list, and how does that build into my overall business goals?

Make these goals specific and measurable. Instead of just settling for “get more visibility,” use more concrete targets like “book guest appearances on 5 right-fit podcasts this quarter” or “grow my email list by 500 qualified subscribers through speaking engagements by December.”

Choosing Your Visibility Platforms

The most effective visibility marketing strategy builds on your natural strengths and helps you show up where your dream clients are already hanging out. Here’s how to identify the best platforms for your visibility strategy:

Assess Your Strengths

Do you communicate best through writing, speaking, or visual content? If you’re best at writing, maybe guest blogging and email swaps would be a good fit for you. If you love getting in front of a microphone, leverage guest podcasting and virtual summits to get started!

What format allows you to share your expertise most effectively? If your work is very visual, you may want to focus on presentations that let you showcase that. If you’re talking about concepts and don’t need to use visuals very often, speaking on podcasts could be where you want to be showing up.

Analyze Your Audience

Where do your ideal clients look for solutions? Are they listening to podcasts? Reading blogs and emails? Attending virtual summits? It’s probably a mix of all of the above (and then some), but figuring out their primary platforms where they consume content can help you decide where to focus.

Select Your Focus

Now that you know what your strengths are and how and where your audience is showing up, it’s time to pick your platform. Choose one primary platform that:

  • Aligns with your natural communication style
  • Reaches your target audience effectively
  • Supports your specific visibility goals

Then select one complementary platform that can amplify your primary visibility marketing platform. For example, if podcasting is your primary platform, a newsletter could help you build deeper, 2-way relationships with listeners, and you can leverage the podcast transcript to write the email—win-win! 🙌

Creating Value-Driven Content

Strategic visibility isn’t about just showing up more—it’s about showing up better. Your content should:

Address Specific Pain Points

Focus on solving real problems your audience faces. This might include niche-specific challenges they’re trying to overcome, professional goals they’re working to achieve, or common obstacles holding them back from success. The more you can speak directly to what’s making them bang their head against the wall, the more it’s going to feel like you’re in their head—and that lets them know you actually know how to solve it. 💪

Demonstrate Expertise

Share insights that showcase your unique perspective and experience. You might talk about trends you’re seeing in your niche and what that means for your audience. You could give them a behind-the-scenes look at your process (without revealing all your proprietary secrets) so they understand what it looks like to work with you. Lessons learned from your own business experience are always great too, because they show folks that you’re human but also that you know how to solve problems and move forward.

Measuring Your Visibility Success

To refine your strategy over time, you need to track relevant metrics that align with your goals. That means tracking both quantitative metrics (tangible, numbers-based data) and qualitative metrics (less tangible, more subjective data). You don’t want to use just one—both are crucial to seeing success with your visibility marketing!

Quantitative Metrics

These metrics include things like:

  • Website traffic from visibility marketing efforts
  • Email list growth from speaking engagements
  • Conversion rates from different platforms
  • Engagement rates on content

Qualitative Metrics

Qualitative metrics are measured more by your heart, so to speak. 😜 These kinds of metrics include things like:

  • The quality of leads you’ve attracted
  • Audience feedback and testimonials
  • Speaking and collaboration opportunities created
  • Industry recognition

You can’t necessarily put a hard and fast number on these metrics, but they’re often just as important as quantitative metrics! Tracking these metrics helps you see where your visibility marketing efforts are paying off.

Refining Your Visibility Strategy

I recommend you review your metrics monthly. That gives you enough time to gather new data, but it’s not so frequent that it burns you out or so infrequent that it’s too late to take meaningful action. As you analyze your quantitative and qualitative metrics, ask yourself:

  • Which platforms are generating the best results for my business?
  • What type of content resonates most with my audience, based on their engagement?
  • Where am I seeing the highest engagement, and how can I build on that?
  • Which efforts are leading to actual business growth, and which are just becoming busy work?

Use these insights to adjust your strategy, doubling down on what works and refining or getting rid of what doesn’t. Don’t toss something too quickly, but don’t hold onto it too long, either! Give a new approach about 90 days before you decide that it’s not working. Sometimes it just takes a little time to get traction.

Next Steps for Your Visibility Strategy

Remember, an effective visibility marketing strategy isn’t about being everywhere—it’s about being strategic about where you show up and how you add value to the folks who are there. Start by:

  1. Defining clear, measurable visibility goals that build into your overall business goals
  2. Choosing your primary platform based on your strengths
  3. Creating a consistent plan for valuable content that meets your people where they’re at
  4. Tracking results and adjusting as needed by reviewing your metrics monthly

Take action today by identifying your primary visibility marketing platform and scheduling time to create a piece of content that will build into your Visibility Ecosystem. The key to visibility success isn’t doing more—it’s doing less, better!
